About This Afterschool Studio
Join MODA for a virtual studio in which students will design a large-format fantasy map poster that showcases their own imagined world.
In this virtual studio, young designers will explore how composition, typography, symbols, and color work together to build a map. Students will sketch landforms and regions, plan a layout, and use Canva to create a polished poster that includes mountains, forests, rivers, kingdoms, portals, or any magical features they imagine. At the end of the studio, students can share their posters and receive feedback in a supportive environment.
In This Afterschool Studio, we will . . .
Study how visual hierarchy and legends help readers navigate a map
Learn how color palettes support the mood and character of a world
Use Canva to design a complete fantasy map poster layout
Practice worldbuilding through illustration and design choices
Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback
Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking
