Ages 12-17
In this virtual studio, young designers will explore how museums use graphic design to present historical information through exhibition graphics, labels, and promotional displays. Students will invent an ancient civilization or forgotten city, develop its history and culture. They’ll use Canva to create a poster or artifact label that introduces visitors to their discovery. They will combine typography, illustrations, symbols, maps, and historical details to create a design that feels both educational and imaginative. At the end of the studio, students can share their work and receive feedback in a supportive environment.
In this Afterschool Studio, we’ll:
Explore how museums communicate information through exhibition graphics and artifact labels
Invent an original ancient civilization or lost city with its own history and culture
Use Canva to design a museum inspired poster or exhibit label
Practice combining typography, illustrations, symbols, and layout into a cohesive design
Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback
Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking

Earline Johnson is a dedicated educator and accomplished multidisciplinary artist, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Media and a Minor in Art History from Old Dominion University. She brings a diverse set of skills, including ceramics, sculpture, and graphic design, into her role as an Educator at MODA. Her teaching experience includes being an Educator at the Barry Art Museum, Arts Education Manager at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and Visual Arts Teacher in Atlanta Public Schools.

This is held at the Peachtree Branch of the Fulton County Library at 1315 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.
The library is in the same building as MODA, directly above the museum.

An elevator is available from the front entrance to the library, as well as from the parking lot below the library.
