In-Person at the Fulton County Library
9th–12th Grade
What is Design Next?
Presented by the Museum of Design Atlanta in partnership with the Peachtree Branch of the Fulton County Library System, Design Next is a free architecture program for students in grades 9-12. See the whole series.
In this session, we’ll explore how architects organize spaces that are both functional and enjoyable to use. Students will learn how to read floor plans, understand architectural symbols, use a tape measure, and think about circulation, furniture placement, and room organization before creating their own building layout.
What You’ll Do
Learn how architects measure and organize interior spaces
Read and interpret floor plans and architectural symbols
Practice using a tape measure and working with scale
Design the layout of a building such as a home, library, school, office, or restaurant
Consider how people move through a space
Add your floor plan to your design portfolio
Share your design and receive constructive feedback
Practice planning, organization, problem solving, spatial reasoning, and design thinking
Enjoy designing homes, creating game maps, or imagining new buildings? This session will show you how thoughtful layouts shape the way people experience spaces.
