Writing Architecture: Second Session | Plan & Plot

  • Museum of Design Atlanta 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-person | Ages 16+

Writing is expression, but it is also a process for exploring the world around us.We write to find out what we know. In this series of three workshops, we’ll explore how three architectural concepts — place, plan, tectonics — can teach us about the craft of writing and vice versa. To do so, we’ll practice looking closely and writing about our experiences.‌

Plans show a building’s layout, circulation, and spatial relationship from a bird’s eye view. They can do the same for cities. While plans might seem static, we can actually read them like a choose-your-own-adventure story!

In this session, we’ll kick things off by perusing the plans and diagrams in the Department of City Planning’s “Atlanta City Design” vision and plot some ATL adventures of our own.

Recommended preparation:

  • Flip through Atlanta City Design, if you have access to it, giving closer attention to the plans, maps, and diagrams in the last chapter, “Our Future City.” Choose one plan, map, or diagram that stands out to you. If you’d prefer to find one elsewhere, that’s fine!
    Be prepared to share.
