This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Downtown Atlanta, focuses on themes of Art & Architecture, Environment, History & Culture.
Interested in discovering how design tells the story of Atlanta’s rich history?
Join us for the Downtown Atlanta Type Walk, a free, fun-filled exploration of the city’s history told through design! Led by the talented Sue Youngblood, we’ll kick off the adventure at the SW corner of the intersection of Alabama St. and Forsyth St. diagonal from the Five Points Marta station and take a stroll. From there, we’ll lean into the vibrant Fairlie-Poplar historic district, uncovering the stories hidden in street signs, building names, graffiti, and plaques.
As we walk through the iconic Five Points intersection (no, not Little Five Points) and up Peachtree Street, we’ll explore how design shapes the narrative of the evolving city, ending with a refreshing stop at Hardy Ivy Park.
Get ready to connect the dots between design, history, and Atlanta’s unique urban spirit. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. This walk will take place rain or shine. Please arrive on time; late arrivals will be left behind.

Jim Hackleris a longtime sustainability advocate, journalist, and community organizer whose career has bridged national green building initiatives and local gardening projects. As the former head of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program and the Southeast’s EarthCraft House initiative, Jim helped shape how builders and homeowners think about “what it means to be green.” Today, he brings that same passion for practical sustainability to the ground level as a leader and volunteer with Atlanta’s Five Points Community Garden, where he helps coordinate growing efforts, community workshops, and neighborhood outreach. A downtown Atlanta resident for more than 20 years, Jim lives his values—navigating city life primarily by bicycle and championing walkable, connected communities. His background in journalism (CNN and Green Builder) continues to inform his storytelling approach, connecting people, policy, and place through clear and compelling communication.
