In-Person at the Fulton County Library
9th–12th Grade
What is Design Next?
Presented by the Museum of Design Atlanta in partnership with the Peachtree Branch of the Fulton County Library System, Design Next is a free architecture program for students in grades 9-12. See the whole series.
In this session, we’ll transform two-dimensional architectural drawings into physical models. Students will learn the fundamentals of architectural model making while exploring scale, proportion, structure, and craftsmanship through the construction of a three-dimensional building model.
What You’ll Do
Learn how architects use physical models throughout the design process
Practice measuring, cutting, scoring, folding, and assembling materials
Build a scaled architectural model from your drawings
Explore form, proportion, and spatial relationships
Refine your craftsmanship and construction techniques
Add photographs of your completed model to your design portfolio
Share your model and receive constructive feedback
Practice precision, problem solving, creativity, and three-dimensional thinking
Enjoy building models, making miniatures, or designing structures? This session offers a hands-on introduction to architectural model making.
