LEGO® SALT LANDSCAPES
For Grades K – 5th
During this in-museum field trip, a MODA instructor will guide students through an exploration of why salt is one of Earth’s most important natural resources. Students will discover how salt is formed, how it is harvested from both the earth and the ocean, and how it shapes unique landscapes such as salt flats, salt marshes, and evaporation ponds.
Students will examine the colors, patterns, and landforms found in salt landscapes. They’ll learn how artists, designers, and photographers create a sense of depth in landscape images. Students will be introduced to the concepts of foreground, middle ground, and background and explore how these elements help tell a visual story.
After exploring these ideas, students will become landscape designers by building their own original salt landscape using LEGO® bricks. Along the way, students will practice using observation, spatial thinking, and creative problem solving to discover how design helps us better understand the natural world.
