About This Session
Learn how to add expressive chain-stitch embroidery to your favorite hoodie, or any fabric garment in your closet, with designer Sarah Lawrence. In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll be introduced to three different chain stitch styles, learn how to choose the one that feels most natural to you, and practice stitching on your own hoodie or other apparel. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore and discuss the exhibition THE HOODIE: Identity. Power. Protest. with fellow attendees—connecting craft, design, and cultural storytelling.

Whether you're an experienced embroiderer or have never held a needle before, this workshop will inspire you to learn chain stitching and applying your own unique style to a garment. Bring a hoodie or other plain piece of fabric clothing, and MODA will supply all the supplies you’ll need.

About Sarah Lawrence
Sarah Lawrence is a designer, illustrator, and creative technologist based in Atlanta. She’s known for solving complex design problems and has worked with organizations like TEDx, DesignMadison, and has led several programs in the past here at MODA. Her work has been featured in Fast Company, 99U, and HLN. When she’s not creating, she’s spending time with her beloved pets, Peanut and Cocoa, surrounded by her thriving plant collection.

The Museum of Design Atlanta is conveniently located in the Midtown Arts District, right across the street from the Woodruff Arts Center at 1315 Peachtree St. NE Atlanta, GA 30309.
MODA is located on the ground floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building. The building is a mix use site and is shared by MODA, the Peachtree Public Library, and Perkins+Will.
MODA resides on the land of the Mvskoke (Muscogee / Creek) people.

Parking for this event is available in the lot below the building. Enter from 16th Street.
If all spots are full, you’ll find public parking lots located in the Midtown Arts district, as well as metered parking available along Peachtree St NE. The paid Lanier parking deck at 1337 Peachtree St NE is the closest deck within walking distance of the museum.
Bike Riders
For visitors traveling by bike, there are plenty of bike racks conveniently located around the library! You can find them along Peachtree Street, including right outside of the library, and at the Arts Center MARTA Station. Don’t forget to bring a lock!
Marta
If visiting by train, take the North or South rail line to the Arts Center MARTA Station (N5), located directly behind the Woodruff Arts Center (accessible). Exit the Arts Center Station at the top level by the Peachtree Street exit. You will be behind the Woodruff Arts Center. The library is located directly across the street from the Woodruff Arts Center. Use the cross-walk at the intersection of 16th and Peachtree to reach our building.

Camp registrations that are canceled 2 weeks prior to the start of the session will result in a refund of the amount paid minus a $100 non-refundable registration fee.
No refunds will be available for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the start of the session.
MODA reserves the right to cancel any camp or program that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements.
If you have any last minute emergencies, do not hesitate to contact MODA at education@museumofdesign.org so that we can discuss the best options for you and your camper.
