What happens when a new way of seeing the world becomes a new way of designing it?
Born during the Belle Époque, Art Nouveau emerged as a movement driven in part by a younger generation eager to break from historical styles and imagine something new. Its flowing whiplash lines, organic forms, expressive craftsmanship, and embrace of new materials brought a fresh visual language to architecture, furniture, glass, ceramics, and the everyday objects of home.
Following our September behind-the-scenes visit to Ahlers & Ogletree, MODA members are invited back for a deeper exploration of Art Nouveau, its radical journey around the world, and its path toward modernism. Scott Reilly, Head of Modern & Contemporary Art & Design and MODA Member, will explore how the movement challenged traditional ideas about design and helped open the door to what came next. Kimberly Hong, Director of Sales & Business Development, will add historical context, exploring why Art Nouveau remains such an important chapter in the story of art and design.
Members will preview more than 50 objects from October Estates & Collections, including cabinetry, ceramics, silver, Tiffany-inspired glass, a fireplace screen, works on paper, and more. Ahlers & Ogletree cataloguers Rebecca Lounderback, Daniel Hogan-Layman, and Emma Thompson will offer a behind-the-scenes look at researching and documenting these historic objects, including the challenges of writing a condition report for something more than a century old.

Meet Your Hosts
The conversation will be led by Kimberly Hong and Scott Reilly who will share their perspectives on collecting, art and design, and the auction process.
Kimberly Hong is Director of Sales & Business Development, Trusts & Estates, and Private Clients at Ahlers & Ogletree. An experienced appraiser and specialist in fine art, antiques, and decorative arts, Kimberly works with collectors, estates, and private clients to help bring significant objects and collections to market.
Scott Reilly is Head of Modern & Contemporary Art & Design at Ahlers & Ogletree and a longtime supporter of MODA. A former MODA board member, Scott has been part of the museum's design community for years and brings extensive experience in modern and contemporary art, design, curation, and museum leadership.
