Piedmont Park: A Walking History Tour

  • Piedmont Park Visitor Center 1071 Piedmont Avenue Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-person

This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Piedmont Park, focuses on themes of history and culture.

Join a docent from Piedmont Park for an introduction to the park’s vibrant past and present!

You’ll discover how Piedmont Park’s rich history is undeniably intertwined with the development of Atlanta, and together, we’ll explore the fascinating historical and physical evolution of iconic park and its journey from forest to farm, to fairgrounds for the Piedmont Exposition of 1887 and the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895. Now, it’s Atlanta’s premier urban green space!

  • Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival honoring the legacy of urbanist, activist, and writer Jane Jacobs with free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities.

The festival promotes civic engagement and encourages leaders and participants to share stories about their communities and use walking as a means of connecting with their neighbors.

  • The tour starts in front of the Visitor Center (brick building) by the lake as part of Piedmont Park’s Green Market.

Please look for the Piedmont Park Conservancy table, and the Docent will meet you at the sign for the History Tour. The closest entrance to the Park is via the 12th Street gate/Piedmont Ave gate (if walking). This is located near Willy's/Shake Shack.

If you decide to park elsewhere, please be aware that most neighborhood streets have restrictions.

Just be sure to read the signs. If you park in the parking garage (same as the Atlanta Botanical Gardens), use only the address 1314 Monroe Dr. NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 to access the best entrance.

We recommend using Google Maps to arrive at the right location. We do not own the garage, so we cannot validate parking. Once you arrive, enter the Park on level one. You will pass the two park benches as you enter.

There are maps in the Welcome Plaza that can tell you how to get to the Green Market area. We recommend allowing 20 minutes to walk across the park.

  • MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met.

If you need to cancel your plans for any reason, we kindly request that you notify us 48 hours prior to the event start.

By doing so, we can release your seat to another individual interested in joining us for this Jane’s Walk!
