This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Sweet Auburn, focuses on themes of Advocacy, History & Culture, and Art & Architecture.

What does a neighborhood look like when it's been cut in half by a highway?

Join Nicholas Mulkey of CNU Atlanta and Gene Kansas, Author of Civil Sights, for a walk through one of Atlanta's most historically significant neighborhoods, exploring how Sweet Auburn has survived, struggled, and resurged in the face of car-centered development. The route covers the neighborhood's urban form, its rich history, and the new developments now taking shape, offering a clear-eyed look at what happens when highway infrastructure tears through a community and what it takes to come back from it.

About the Walk Leader

Nicholas Mulkey leads CNU Atlanta, whose mission is to champion people-centered urbanism in Atlanta and throughout the Greater South. CNU Atlanta is the local chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism, an organization founded on the principles of Jane Jacobs.

Gene Kansas of Gene Kansas Commercial Real Estate: a network of trusted advisors, real estate professionals, consultants, educators, artists, event planners, designers, writers, and community builders with a common denominator — to excel for our clients and our communities. By using the built environment as our stage, we help individuals, organizations, and businesses find their place in Atlanta, tell their stories, and realize their dreams. In doing so, we work in concert with our city's vibrant neighborhoods, and we help our clients reach their own goals, missions, and dreams.
