Graphic Design Studio: Endless Summer

Virtual
Ages 12–18

Join MODA for a virtual studio and design a summer billboard ad that captures the feeling of an endless summer.

In this virtual studio, young designers will explore how billboards use scale, contrast, and simple visual messaging to grab attention in seconds. Students will brainstorm a summer-themed idea, sketch a strong composition, and use Canva to design a large format advertisement that radiates sunshine and energy. They will experiment with oversized shapes, summer motifs, expressive patterns, and bold typography to create a billboard that feels vibrant and inviting. At the end of the studio, students can share their work and receive feedback in a supportive environment.

In this Afterschool Studio, we’ll:

  • Study how billboard designers use bold visuals and short text to communicate fast

  • Explore bright palettes, patterns, and summer centered imagery

  • Use Canva to create a large scale summer billboard concept

  • Practice layout, typography, and visual hierarchy

  • Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback

  • Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking

Tech Needs:

  • A computer

  • Zoom

  • Students must have access to a free Canva account. Sign up at: www.canva.com
