Digital Art Studio: Designing Sidekick Characters

Virtual
Ages 12–18

Join MODA for a virtual studio in which students will illustrate a sidekick character with expressive poses, outfits, and details that show who they are.

In this virtual studio, young designers will explore how digital artists use body language, costume design, color palettes, and character details to express personality and story. Students will sketch a pose, refine the sketch, and use Medibang Paint Pro to create a polished illustration that shows their sidekick’s look, attitude, and role. At the end of the studio, students can share their work and receive feedback in a supportive environment.

In this Afterschool Studio, we’ll:

  • Study how pose, clothing, and expression communicate character identity

  • Use Medibang Paint Pro to create a character illustration

  • Develop a color palette and details that express personality

  • Transform ideas from sketches to digital art.

  • Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback

  • Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking
