Game Design Studio: Beach Blast

Virtual
Ages 10-13

Join MODA for a virtual studio and build a beach sports game in Scratch featuring a summer activity.

In this virtual studio, young designers will learn how to create interactive games using Scratch. They will design a beach sport, characters and obstacles. They’ll also build a short playable scene. Students will use block based coding to add movement, scoring, collision checks, or speed changes. At the end of the studio, students can share their work and receive feedback in a supportive environment.

In this Afterschool Studio, we’ll:

  • Design characters, beach settings, and basic obstacles

  • Use Scratch to build a short interactive sports scene

  • Introduce foundational coding concepts using Scratch

  • Strengthen logical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Encourage creativity through visual design and storytelling in gameplay

  • Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback

  • Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking
