Virtual
Ages 10-13
Join MODA for a virtual studio in which students will create a small game habitat using Scratch where players protect, explore, or interact with natural environments.
In this virtual studio, young designers will learn how to create interactive games using Scratch. They will choose a natural setting such as a forest, reef, wetland, or desert. Students will design simple characters or creatures, add environmental features, and use block-based coding to allow players to explore or protect the habitat. At the end of the studio, students can share their work and receive feedback in a supportive environment.
In this Afterschool Studio, we’ll:
Explore how games can teach players about ecosystems and conservation
Design characters, obstacles, and features inspired by natural habitats
Introduce foundational coding concepts using Scratch
Strengthen logical thinking and problem-solving skills
Encourage creativity through visual design and storytelling in gameplay
Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback
Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking
Tech Needs:
A computer
Zoom
Scratch account (it’s free!)
Registration Fee: Registration for this Afterschool Studio is free, but space is limited — save your young designer’s seat by clicking the link below!

Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program. Please email leslie@museumofdesign.org with questions or information.
