Pour a glass of wine and you're tasting more than grapes. You're tasting geography. Ocean air, mineral-rich soil, and the hand of the winemaker all leave their mark on what lands on your tongue, sometimes as a distinct salinity that wine lovers seek out and savor.
So when a wine tastes salty, what are we actually noticing?
Join Certified Sommelier Janeen Jason of VinoTeca for a guided tasting through four wines that put this question to the test. She'll walk us through how the palate detects salinity and how wine can evoke soil, sea, and salt.
This special tasting is a fundraiser organized by Board Member Lauren Aitken and Vinoteca in support of MODA's future exhibitions, programming, and operations. Thank you for joining us and for your generosity.

About the Janeen Jason, Our Sommelier
Upon graduating from high school, Janeen moved to the city and started her hospitality career while studying at Georgia State University. She worked as a bartender and server at numerous restaurants until completing her Certified Sommelier certification in 2015. Within the same week she was offered a wine steward position with Barcelona Wine Bar, later moving to the first retail location for the company: VinoTeca. Today, she is a wine buyer and sommelier for the store and continues to educate front of the house staff at various restaurants in the city. She is currently completing a Tasting Diploma program with the Wine Scholar Guild and plans to program continued education for wine enthusiasts seeking a better understanding of their palate.
About Vinoteca
Tucked into Inman Park since 2015, Vinoteca is where a neighborhood wine shop turns into a gathering spot. Walk past the shelves stocked with small-production bottles from Spain, South America, and beyond, and you'll land in the study room: a cozy space built around a communal wooden table, made for sharing a glass and slowing down for an evening. It's the kind of place where sommeliers prep for certification exams next to friends catching up over a bottle from the biodynamic table. Vinoteca has hosted tastings, classes, and live music on its Highland Avenue sidewalk for years, and this event carries on that tradition: good wine and good company.

The Museum of Design Atlanta is conveniently located in the Midtown Arts District, right across the street from the Woodruff Arts Center at 1315 Peachtree St. NE Atlanta, GA 30309.
MODA is located on the ground floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building. The building is a mix use site and is shared by MODA, the Peachtree Public Library, and Perkins+Will.
MODA resides on the land of the Mvskoke (Muscogee / Creek) people.

Parking
MODA does not offer designated parking. There are public parking lots located in the Midtown Arts district, as well as metered parking available along Peachtree St NE. The paid Lanier parking deck at 1337 Peachtree St NE is the closest deck within walking distance of the museum.
Bike Riders
For visitors traveling by bike, there are plenty of bike racks conveniently located around MODA! You can find them along Peachtree Street, including right outside of MODA, and at the Arts Center MARTA Station. Don’t forget to bring a lock!
MARTA
If visiting by train, take the North or South rail line to the Arts Center MARTA Station (N5), located directly behind the Woodruff Arts Center (accessible). Exit the Arts Center Station at the top level by the Peachtree Street exit. You will be behind the Woodruff Arts Center. MODA is located directly across the street from the Woodruff Arts Center. Use the cross-walk at the intersection of 16th and Peachtree to reach our building.

Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program. Please email miranda@museumofdesign.org with questions or information.

MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met, but don’t worry: should MODA have to cancel, we will gladly issue a full refund to all registrants.
Because this is a fundraiser benefiting MODA’s exhibitions, programs, and operations, no refunds are offered if you choose to cancel your plans. -
