In-Person at the Fulton County Library
9th–12th Grade
What is Design Next?
Presented by the Museum of Design Atlanta in partnership with the Peachtree Branch of the Fulton County Library System, Design Next is a free architecture program for students in grades 9-12. See the whole series.
In this session, we’ll move from designing to building through hands-on woodworking experience. In partnership with the Atlanta Green Artist Alliance, students will learn the fundamentals of construction while designing and building a wooden birdhouse, gaining firsthand experience with fabrication, craftsmanship, and construction techniques.
What You’ll Do
Learn the fundamentals of construction
Practice measuring, preparing materials, and assembling components
Build a functional wooden birdhouse
Experience how architectural ideas become physical objects
Add photographs of your finished project to your design portfolio
Share your work and celebrate the year’s accomplishments
Practice craftsmanship, perseverance, teamwork, and design thinking
Interested in architecture, construction, engineering, or simply enjoy making things with your hands? This final session celebrates the creative process from concept to construction.
