About This Camp

How can cities make space for fun? In this week of City Lab, campers will explore how playgrounds, parks, and recreational spaces support physical health, spark creativity, and strengthen community connections.

They’ll investigate how access to play differs across neighborhoods. Students will also consider how thoughtful design can create more inclusive, engaging, and joyful places for everyone.

Using crafting materials, campers will design new types of play spaces that invite exploration, movement, and imagination.

Campers will learn to:

  • Understand the role of play in urban life and public health

  • Explore how cities design and distribute recreational spaces

  • Use creative materials to prototype inclusive and imaginative play areas

  • Learn how real-world examples in Atlanta and beyond are making communities healthier and more fun

  • Consider access, safety, and engagement in their design solutions

At the end of the week, parents and caregivers are invited for a showcase of the campers’ creations!

What to Bring:

  • Campers should bring a water bottle, snacks, and lunch.
