Design Camp for GROWN-UPS: Design Recess

  • Museum of Design Atlanta 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-person at MODA
June 24, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Join us on June 24 for the day your inner creative has been waiting for since approximately the third grade.

Every creative block you've ever had came from the same place: you stopped being willing to be bad at something. Play fixes that. Not as a warm-up, not as a team building exercise, but as a legitimate creative practice that the best designers never abandoned.

Expect secret handshakes, absurd design briefs, and a Design Improv session led by Eve Krueger. Come prepared to be terrible at things. Leave ready for anything.

What to Expect:

  • To be bad at something. On purpose. With enthusiasm. This is the entire point.

  • To laugh. At yourself and with your newly-made friends.

  • To leave with something unlocked. The best designers, writers, and makers never stopped playing. One day of deliberate absurdity has a way of shaking loose ideas that have been stuck for months.

  • To forget, briefly, that you are a serious person with a full calendar. You are. We know. You can go back to that on Thursday.

  • To be surprised by what you're capable of when nobody is grading you, your boss isn't watching, and the brief is genuinely, intentionally ridiculous.

Price:

$300 | All proceeds fund summer Design Camp scholarships for youth ages 6-18, so you can do good and have fun at the same time! Lunch is included!

Your Fearless Leaders:

Eve Krueger (AEA/SAG-AFTRA)  grew up in Marietta, GA and attended Berry College where she got a BA in theatre.  After graduation she moved to Atlanta where she worked extensively as an actor, improviser and director in live theatre. She moved to Chicago in 2013 and focused on sketch and improvisation, performing, teaching and directing for The Second City, The Annoyance Theatre, iO and Laugh Out Loud. In 2022 she completed an MFA in theatre from Kent State University and moved back to Georgia. Since returning to Atlanta, Eve has continued to act in and direct scripted theatre, as well as perform and teach improv. She served as Associate Artistic Director at Dad’s Garage from 2022 - 2025. Currently she is the General Manager at Out Front Theatre Company, as well as a professor of theatre for Georgia Perimeter College. Eve is also a board member of Arts Capital | Atlanta. You can hear her improvise on the family-friendly adventure podcast Tales From the Cloud Sea.

MODA's Creative Team -- Design Recess is also powered by MODA's own educators, who bring years of experience turning design thinking into hands-on, joyful, genuinely surprising experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds. They'll be in the room all day making sure nothing goes according to plan.
