Catalyst: You Need a Manifesto

  • Museum of Design Atlanta 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-person

What can we do? What should we do? What must we do? And how?

To answer these questions as they arise in everyday life, we need statements of purpose and scripts for action. In other words, we need manifestos.

Join us for the next session of Catalyst: a series for those who are passionate about design and the ways in which it can change their lives. We’ll dive into the book You Need a Manifesto, written by Charlotte Burgess-Auburn: a designer, artist, and educator who has directed community at the Stanford d.school since 2005.

Facilitated by Kevin Day and Stacey Lee, Impact Design Lab Coordinator and Chief of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action (IDEA) at the Mount Vernon School, the meet-up will include:

  • An introduction to the book You Need a Manifesto

  • A discussion of the main ideas in You Need a Manifesto (reading the book in advance isn’t necessary)

  • Insight from those who have leveraged manifestos to achieve positive changes in their lives and careers

. . . And more! Stay tuned for updates to this page!

About You Need a Manifesto

Right now, creative work is more powerful than ever — it can move mountains, cure plagues, and change the world for good. But amid the complexity of everyday life, we must be able to determine not just what we can do, but what we should do and must do, plus how.

That’s where manifestos come in. A modern manifesto is a statement of purpose and a script for action. Your manifesto can be a compass to help you navigate the seas of change and a reminder of your agency as a creator and changemaker. In You Need a Manifesto, Charlotte Burgess Auburn explains how to collect, curate, and craft your own manifesto that  you can use as an everyday tool for making decisions and taking action. Borrow and rearrange your way to a manifesto that can give you the confidence to take risks that are important to you and be persistent about pursuing goals you actually care about, all through the power of your own words.

The cost to attend this event is $22.

  • This fee includes a copy of You Need a Manifesto, valued at $16.

  • Want to pick up your book before the meet-up? Just email Mary at maryk@museumofdesign.org after your register to work that out.
