What turns a pinch of salt into a story?
Suzi Sheffield once ran a taqueria kitchen in South Carolina. When she was ready for a change, she traded her chef's knife for a mortar and pestle and founded Beautiful Briny Sea, an Atlanta company whose salt blends suggest intriguing backstories, like French Picnic and Hot Steve.
Join us at MODA for an evening of tasting, talking, and blending salt with Suzi herself. She'll walk through her path from restaurant life to founding Beautiful Briny Sea, then guide participants through a crash course in how to taste salt with intention, noticing texture, mineral character, and how flavor builds and fades on the tongue. From there, participants will learn the basics of pairing herbs and spices with salt and build their own custom blend to take home.
What to Expect:
Arrive early to explore MODA’s latest exhibition, Salt: A Design Story
Tasting will begin at 6:15 PM
A conversation with Suzi Sheffield on her path from chef to salt maker
A guided tasting through several of Beautiful Briny Sea's signature blends
Hands-on instruction in pairing herbs and spices with salt
A custom salt blend you create and take home

About Suzi Sheffield & Beautiful Briny Sea
Suzi Sheffield is the founder of Beautiful Briny Sea, an Atlanta-based artisan dry goods company she started in 2011 after years running restaurants and catering events. Self-taught and endlessly curious, she has grown Beautiful Briny Sea from a one-woman operation into a company whose salts and sugars are sold at Williams-Sonoma and used by chefs and ice cream makers across the country. Her blends are known for their wit and their stories, each one built around a flavor she has chased down or a person she has made it for.
