Ages 12-17
Join MODA for a virtual studio and design a field guide page introducing your own original alien species.
In this virtual studio, young designers will explore how designers combine illustrations, diagrams, symbols, and written observations to communicate information about imaginary creatures. Students will invent an alien species, consider where it lives, what it eats, how it survives, and what makes it unique. Using Canva, they will design a creative field guide page featuring labeled illustrations, habitat notes, icons, patterns, and visual details that make their discovery feel scientifically believable. At the end of the studio, students can share their work and receive feedback in a supportive environment.
In this Afterschool Studio, we’ll:
Explore how field guides organize information using illustrations, labels, and symbols
Invent an original alien creature with unique traits, behaviors, and habitat
Use Canva to design a visually engaging field guide page
Practice combining text, graphics, and layout into a clear visual design
Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback
Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking
