Virtual | Ages 13-18
Join MODA for a virtual Afterschool Studio in which we’ll create movie posters!
We’ll explore poster history and then get hands-on experience using Canva to design posters that represent current or imaginary films.
Along the way, we’ll learn about the principles of visual storytelling, and practice combining imagery, typography, and layout to design compelling movie posters that capture the essence of a film. We’ll talk about why film posters are important to the entertainment industry, and we’ll also discuss careers in graphic design and visual communication.
We’ll share our work at the end of the studio and practice giving kind and constructive feedback!

Learn to use Canva’s tools to design posters
Learn to express your thoughts and ideas using a visual language
Enhance your critical thinking skills through design analysis and decision-making

Earline Johnson is an artist who works in sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design. She owns her own small business, Early Girl Crafts, and she holds a B.A. in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History from Old Dominion University. Her work experience includes Big Brothers Big Sisters, Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Atlanta Public Schools, and the Barry Art Museum.

Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program.
