Drink & Design with Addison Walz

May 8, 2020

On May 8th, 2020, we spoke with textile artist and founder of Mater Soap, Addison Walz!

Addison Walz, born in New York City and raised in Rome Italy, received a B.A. from Bard College with a focus in Fine Arts. She has since pursued independent studies in weaving and various textile traditions and has spent the last decade developing unique textiles works. She currently teaches foundation classes at the Textile Art Center and has lead multiple workshops at Yale University. Most recently she was a resident at the Joseph and Anni Albers Foundation as well as at AZ West.

Her studies in textiles lead her to develop a passion for cold process soap making. In 2016, she founded Mater Soap, a small batch soap and body product company. Mater Soap pays homage to utilitarian objects that quietly serve our daily lives. Sourcing inspiration from sculpture, architecture, and textiles, the Mater aesthetic pairs dynamic experience with simple and absolute function. Mater Soap choses materials and composes recipes that speak to the well being of the bather as well as the planet. Their products are enriched by thoughtful and deliberate ingredients with a conscious effort to minimize ecological impact.
