DESIGN FOR JUSTICE

For Grades 4 - 12

During this in-museum field trip, a MODA instructor will guide students through an exploration of how design shapes the way people experience the world. Students will examine how objects, spaces, and systems can either support equity and inclusion or contribute to barriers and injustice in everyday life.

They’ll explore how designers, artists, activists, and communities use design to address social challenges and create positive change. Students will think critically about fairness, accessibility, representation, and power while learning how design decisions impact individuals and communities on both local and global levels. We’ll use the Design Justice Network and the Liberatory Design Process to become changemakers, identify a real-world challenge connected to equity or justice, and design a creative response using LEGO® bricks.

Along the way, students will practice critical thinking, creative confidence, and human-centered design while exploring how design can be used as a tool for social impact.
