Black Experience in Design Community Roundtable
June 15, 2022
On June 15, 2022, MODA and friends joined together for a virtual conversation with the contributors of the groundbreaking new book, The Black Experience in Design: Identity, Reflection & Expression.
We heard from those whose work demonstrates how art and design can be used as tools for changing lives and communities, including:
Maurice Woods, of Inneract Project, an organization that uses design education to empower marginalized students of color and link them to opportunities to explore design in college, career, and life.
Malene Barnett, a multidisciplinary artist, textile designer, and activist, who envisions a modern black experience rooted in the cultural traditions and practices of art in the African diaspora.
Terrence Moline of African American Graphic Designers, a non-traditional, industry, and culture-based collective of African American / Black Creatives with the goal of training and supporting creatives in the social and commercial design industries to be professional and unapologetically Black.
The roundtable was followed by Q&A moderated by designer, strategist, and podcaster Maurice Cherry, founder of the podcast Revision Path.
