About This Event

Join us for an inspiring evening at MODA! We’ll begin with a guided tour of CHARACTERS: Type in Action, where you’ll discover how typography—letters, fonts, and design—has been used to tell powerful stories and drive social change.

After the tour, enjoy a glass of wine as we gather for a meaningful conversation with Susannah Morris, Associate Professor in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Tech.

Inspired by the words of bell hooks, “There can be no love without justice,” David will guide us in exploring the idea that love is a powerful design tool—one that can help us create a fairer, more equitable world.

Whether you're a design enthusiast, a justice advocate, or simply curious about the connections between love, design, and justice, this event is for you. Come connect with others, get inspired, and leave with new ideas about how love and design can make a difference.

Don’t miss it—reserve your spot today!

About bell hooks

bell hooks (1952–2021) was an African-American author, feminist, and activist who wrote over 40 books. In All About Love: New Visions, she encouraged breaking away from traditional ways of thinking, listening to marginalized voices, and embracing self-love to create meaningful change.

About CHARACTERS: Type in Action

Typography has long been a powerful force in the fight for freedom.

From Martin Luther Jr. to Eva Perón, Stacey Abrams to Harriet Tubman, CHARACTERS: Type in Action delves into the impact of typography on social justice, examining its history and its role in today’s movements. This exhibition showcases typefaces created by Tré Seals, a Black designer from Washington, D.C., and founder of Vocal Type, whose work captures the spirit of these movements. These typefaces remind us that a just and equitable world embraces diverse voices in our daily lives.

Through the stories of these historical figures, CHARACTERS: Type in Action reveals how typography can be wielded as a tool for both oppression and liberation, encouraging us to consider our own role in the ongoing struggle for justice.
