About the Event:

Join MODA for a lively and visually stunning panel discussion that brings together three innovative mapmakers who interpret cities through the lens of art, culture, and history.

  • Joe Veazey, founder of Veazey Studio, is known for iconic atlases like Atlanta’s Rap Map and The Barbecue Map—playful and hyper-local explorations that remix geography with culture.

  • Edward Rowan creates intricate maps of cities and campuses, capturing the heart of place with a crisp and architectural precision.

  • Michael Karpovage draws award-winning illustrated maps that blend historical storytelling with visual delight, offering travelers and locals alike a new way to see beloved cities.

Though their styles and subjects vary, all three panelists are united by a common goal: making the city legible, personal, and artful. They’ll explore questions like:

  • What makes a place worth mapping?

  • How does design shape memory and movement?

  • Who gets to define what a city looks like?

  • How do maps reflect, reinforce, or challenge the way we move through the places we know?

This conversation will open up the world of cartographic creativity—from visual storytelling to cultural commentary—showing how maps aren’t just tools for getting around, but powerful expressions of identity, imagination, and belonging.
