See how grassroots initiatives inspire creativity and collaboration in local design scenes!

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation with co-authors Aaron Cometbus and Scott Satterwhite, centered around their book, A Punkhouse in the Deep South: The Oral History of 309. 309 Punk Project, an artist-run nonprofit in the South's oldest punkhouse, is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a tour through Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Co-sponsored by Atlanta-based Chunklet Music Preservation Project, Inc., this event will explore how punk culture fosters creativity and community.

What to Expect:

  • Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with a mobile exhibit showcasing 309’s history and purchase signed books, fanzines, and more!

  • MODA’s own Felicia E. Gail, a Northwest Florida native who was once an artist in residence at 309, will also share her insights on the intersections of artistic practice, design and community-building.

  • Connect with fellow designers, historians, and punk enthusiasts and contribute to an inspiring dialogue about creating inclusive spaces.

  • Enjoy MODA’s latest exhibition, Public Notice: The 2025 U.S. International Poster Biennial.

About 309 Punk Project:
309 Punk Project is the only artist-run nonprofit organization in the South committed solely to archiving the creative efforts of our region's punk/DIY culture. Our primary goal is to serve the local and regional community as an archive, residency, and venue for divergent practices in DIY culture and contemporary art that critically examines the sociopolitical cultural moment shaping our lives. Located in Pensacola, FL.

Aaron Cometbus is a writer, songwriter, artist, and oral historian who published the fanzine Cometbus for forty years. His most recent book, Downtown Local, was released in 2025 by PM Press.

Scott Satterwhite
is a writer and educator. His work has been published in academic journals, books, newspapers, and his own fanzine, Mylxine. Satterwhite is the co-founder of Open Books Prison Book Project, 309 Punk Project, and teaches English at the University of West Florida.

Felicia E. Gail is an Atlanta-based interdisciplinary artist and the Public Programming & Membership Manager at MODA. She founded Collections Stewardship Southeast in 2023 and has been an educator, curator, and registrar. Her work, including the project Travel Back To Blue, has been exhibited and published in the US and Canada. Felicia was AIR at 309 Punk Project (2023) and most recently at Sale House NYC (2025).

About Co-Sponsor, Chunklet Music Preservation Project, Inc.:
Chunklet Music Preservation Project, Inc. was founded with the mission to collect and preserve ephemeral materials for future scholarship and enjoyment. The inclusion of newly discovered materials alongside archival materials available to the public further legitimizes the mission of the Project—to find and share. While the preservation of photographs and concert flyers is itself important work, it is the sharing of the materials that brings enjoyment. Founded by Stephanie Quinn Jackson and Henry Owings.
