The Hoodie: Identity in Design Field Trip

For Grades 5 – 12

During this in-museum field trip, a MODA instructor will guide students through an exploration of how design communicates identity, community, and belonging. Using examples from The Hoodie exhibition, students will see how designers, artists, and brands transform a sweatshirt into a powerful expression of culture and self.

Students will review how Atlanta-based creatives and global designers use hoodies to tell stories, celebrate individuality, and shape visual identities through color, imagery, and message. After examining other hoodie brands, students will participate in a hands-on design challenge. They’ll create a personal brand logo that represents who they are and apply it to their own hoodie design.

Along the way, we’ll practice thinking like designers by using creativity, empathy, and visual storytelling to explore how what we wear can express who we are and what we stand for.

Please email Leslie Yarborough at education@museumofdesign.org with any questions.
