Chocolate by Design Field Trip

For Grades 5 – 12

During this in-museum field trip, a MODA instructor will guide students through an exploration of how chocolate connects to global systems of labor, culture, and justice. Students will learn how designers and small-batch chocolatiers use storytelling, branding, and packaging to address issues like fair trade, sustainability, and identity.

After examining real-world examples of ethical chocolate products and brand messaging, students will participate in a design challenge. They’ll create their own mini zines that tell the story of an original chocolate brand.

Along the way, we’ll practice thinking like designers by centering empathy, critical thinking, and creative storytelling to imagine a better, more equitable world through the lens of everyday products.

Please email Leslie Yarborough at education@museumofdesign.org with any questions.
