Field Trip: Simple Circuits Workshop (Grades K-5)

Have you ever wondered how motors spin or lights turn on? Come explore the flow of energy through simple circuits. Educators can choose the project for their students: light up cards or pictures, squishy circuits, salt circuits, or flash lights. With each of these hands-on activities students will have the opportunity to make, test and refine their circuits that highlight basic electronic properties using conventional and nonconventional conductive and nonconductive materials.

Students will:

  • Learn how electricity is conducted and what materials are conductive

  • Develop their vocabulary around basic circuits

  • Practice electrical safety

  • Learn through experimentation, invention, and prototyping

Learning standards:

  • SKPI, VAK.CR.4, VAK.CN.3

  • S1P1, VA1.CR4, VA1.CN.2, VA1.CN.3, MGSE1.G.2

  • S3E1a,b,c; S3E2a,b; S3L1c
