Field Trip: 3D Design (Grades 4-12)

At MODA, we’re 100% on board with the Maker Movement’s manifesto, which say that “making is fundamental to what it is to be human.” We believe that one of the best ways to explore a problem and to find solutions is by using your hands to make, learn, and explore.

Our 3D design workshop provides an introduction to designing in 3 dimensions. Students will learn how a 3D printer works, and participate in a 3D modeling demo with MODA educators using the computer aided design (CAD) program, Tinkercad. Students will work collaboratively to design an item.

Students will: 

  • Learn how 3D printing works.

  • Understand the fundamentals of a basic CAD program.

  • Learn efficient planning of order of operations in CAD design.

  • Gain an appreciation for how 3D Printing is changing design processes and how it’s impacting our world.

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, excluding 11/21/19 and 1/2/20

  • Price: $25 per student and participating chaperone / non participating chaperones are free

  • Registrations that are cancelled 2 weeks prior to the workshop, class or school program will result in a refund of 50%. No refunds will be available for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the date of the workshop, class or school program.

  • Group size: 30 max / 10 minimum

  • Time: 10-12noon

  • Parking: MODA does not have a reserved parking area. Buses are able to park on 16th Street NE, between the High Museum of Art and First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. Please note that parking is on a first come, first serve basis. For smaller groups, with passenger vehicles, parking is available along Peachtree St. NE and in the Lanier Parking Deck located at 1337 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.
