Tinkering with Circuits and Robots

For Rising 1st and 2nd Graders

Does your young designer’s imagination take them on new adventures? Are they budding inventors and engineers that like to build with LEGOs? Have they ever wanted to add sounds to their creations, and make them move? Make sense of the world this summer at MODA’s Tinkering with Circuits and Robots camp!

Every morning of this camp will be filled with creative exploration as campers investigate circuitry and robotics using a variety of design and STEAM tools. From littleBits, color-coded modules that snap together magnetically to create simple circuits, to Bristlebots, robots created from toothbrushes and vibrating motors, campers will engineer real world circuits while practicing electrical safety. Campers will also make their own flashlights, design their very own squishy circuits, and use Makey Makey™ in center-based learning activities to further their understanding of circuitry and engineering concepts. Each camper will finish the week with actual projects they can take home and share with friends and family.

This camp will also introduce each camper to robotics using the LEGO WeDo kits. Throughout the week, campers will work on a variety of LEGO WeDo builds each day and learn the basic principles of coding and programming through instruction based builds and structured “free-build” exploration.

Campers will:

  • Learn basic circuitry

  • Practice basic robotic engineering

  • Practice programming principles with LEGO WeDo

  • Gain creative confidence

  • Develop fine-motor skills

  • Strengthen collaboration skills

  • Learn Design Thinking mindsets

  • Learn science, technology, engineering, arts, math and design concepts

Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! Check out our newest camp Engineering Lab: Design-Build Challenges with LEGOs.
