Engineering Lab: Design-Build Challenges with LEGOs
For Rising 2nd to 4th Graders
Do you know a budding engineer that loves LEGOs? Are they interested in learning the ins-and-outs of machines? Check out this week of engineering fun at MODA’s Engineering Lab: Design-Build Challenges with LEGOs.
Say goodbye to the instruction manual and hello to learning by making. In this camp, young designers will explore how simple machines make simple work .From levers to wheels, each camper will prototype their own simple machines using LEGOs and other construction materials. As we build, we’ll put ourselves in the shoes of engineers and learn how they think. We’ll make real world connections to machines we encounter everyday and how both, engineers and designers, make the world a better place. Next, they’ll take what they’ve learned from their projects and build their own complex machines that solves an engineering problem.
Throughout the week, campers will also expand their engineering skills by combining them with robotics. Using LEGO WeDo kits, they’ll find new and creative ways to incorporate motors and sensors into their projects. Campers will also learn how to code using the WeDo software, a Blockly-based programming language which uses digital blocks that ‘snap’ together to represent various code concepts like sequencing, loops, conditional statements, and more.
At the end of the week, campers will present what they’ve designed to friends and family.
