Want to design the ultimate playground? How about adding robotics into the mix? Learn all this and more at MODA’s Design like an Engineer: Project Playground 2.0 camp!
Bring your wacky and daring ideas to life as we design for kids who love playgrounds! Campers will start by interviewing each other and learning about all the different ways kids and adults play. Through active observations and memory- based exercises, campers will compare and contrast playgrounds that they’ve been to and which piece of playground equipment they like the most.
Working collaboratively in design teams, they will create blueprints for the playground of the future (Playground 2.0), taking into account users needs and interests in their designs. Then, they’ll build! Using construction sets like K’Nex and LEGO bricks, campers will prototype designs using sensors and motors to design playground equipment and fixtures that move and interact with the environment. In addition, they will learn the basic principles of programming and coding.

Meet Your Instructor
Blair Banks, Education Coordinator
Blair strives to combine her studies of race and ethnicity with design in order to create programming for children that is not only relevant to their experiences, but also presents them with ideas that originate beyond their backyards. She crafts unique field trip experiences that support and reinforce classroom learning through hands on activities, and tours of MODA's rotating exhibitions. Blair also heads up MODA's Education Partnerships – a series of meaningful collaborative efforts between MODA and various schools and organizations that strive to incorporate design as a problem solving tool for addressing 21st century challenges.
If you must cancel your plans, please notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start to receive a refund of the ticket cost minus a $10 processing fee per camp.
