Robotics: Tinkering with Circuits and Robots (Pre-K to 1st Grade)

Does your young designer’s imagination take them on new adventures? Are they budding inventors and engineers that like to build with LEGOs? Have they ever wanted to add sounds to their creations, and make them move? Make sense of the world this summer in the MODA’s UX and Robotics: Tinkering with Circuits and Robots camp!

Every morning of this camp will be filled with creative exploration as campers investigate circuitry and robotics using a variety of design and STEAM tools. From littleBits, color-coded modules that snap together magnetically to create simple circuits, to Bristlebots, robots created from toothbrushes and vibrating motors, campers will engineer real world circuits while practicing electrical safety. Campers will also use squishy circuits, Makey Makey™  , and K’Nex™ in center-based learning activities to further their understanding of circuitry and engineering concepts.

This camp will also introduce each camper to robotics using the LEGO WeDo kits. Throughout the week, campers will work on a variety of LEGO WeDo builds each day and learn the basic principles of coding and programming.

Skills campers will learn:

  • Basic circuitry
  • Basic robotic engineering
  • Programming principles
  • Creative confidence
  • Fine-motor skills
  • Collaboration
  • Design thinking
  • Science, technology, engineering, arts, math and design concepts

Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! We'll pick up where you left off so your camper can keep making and learning or visit to check out our newest camps such as Design like an Engineer: Project Playground 2.0 and Digital Building Blocks: Adventures in Blockly!

This is a week long camp for rising pre-K (4 yrs) to 1st grade students that runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily. This camp is being held at First Presbyterian, 1328 Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.

Tuition: MODA Members: $225 / Non-Members: $250

Blair Banks, Education Coordinator

Blair strives to combine her studies of race and ethnicity with design in order to create programming for children that is not only relevant to their experiences, but also presents them with ideas that originate beyond their backyards. She crafts unique field trip experiences that support and reinforce classroom learning through hands on activities, and tours of MODA's rotating exhibitions. Blair also heads up MODA's Education Partnerships – a series of meaningful collaborative efforts between MODA and various schools and organizations that strive to incorporate design as a problem solving tool for addressing 21st century challenges.

Please note: Camp member discounts apply only to MODA Sustaining Membership levels beginning at $8/month or $96/year and above. For more information about memberships or to join, visit or contact
