“In her hands, there’s revolutions!” - Bikini Kill
Join us on April 7 from 2 - 4:30 p.m. and learn how to express yourself through zines. In this edition of our zine making workshop, we'll be using zines to explore our experiences existing in the South, and of Southern culture. Living in the South has its joys and its drawbacks, and we'll use the medium of zines to explore our experiences of Southernness.
Zines are self-circulated, self-published books that were created to represent subcultures, discuss issues, and share experiences not expressed in mainstream media. They're also a fantastic way for expressing your unique voice and perspective of the world - a key way they're being used in today's zine culture.
From subversive printing practices, to the riot grrl movement, to contemporary zine movements, we’ll understand how zine making started and the philosophy of social justice that it embodies. Then, we’ll get hands-on, cutting and folding our way to making a one-page zine. No computer needed here - only your passion and imagination. You’ll learn all about how the zine movement started, why they’re important, and how to continue making them. You’ll even get a zine full of tips at the end of the workshop.
