In this class young engineers will explore how simple machines work together to create a Rube Goldberg Machine, Rube Goldberg Machines are deliberately designed to perform a simple task in the most complicated manner possible. Using the engineering design model, young engineers will learn how to adapt their designs to varying constraints that present themselves throughout the building and design process. Young engineers will keep in mind various factors such as - what types of machines will work the best for their design, all the way to finding the correct timing to make their machines function cohesively. They will prototype and iterate their designs using K’NEX as they figure out how to build a Rube Goldberg Machine that can complete a simple task, such as pushing a marble down a slope or knocking down a book.
