Join us for a morning of creative innovation and exploration! We’ll design habitats for our friends, the Bristlebots. Young designers will investigate how Bristlebots function by building their own! Bristlebots are a type of walking robot, that move around with the help of motors and use their bristles to navigate the world around them.
Campers will work collaboratively to examine and explore how Bristlebots move on different surfaces and how their robots adapt to changing environments. Using this knowledge, they will then design, prototype and build LEGO habitats for them. Young designers will also find ways to enhance their habitats with lights using LittleBits, a tool that allows users to learn how to create simple circuits by snapping together magnetic pieces.
After their build sessions, campers will test their habitats out on their Bristlebots, finding out what works and what doesn’t, and then refining their designs to improve results. But the fun doesn’t stop there! MODA’s also giving your camper their very own Bristlebot to take home so the exploration can continue!
Campers will learn:
- Basic circuitry with littleBits modules
- Basic robotic engineering using Bristlebots and littleBits
- Fine-motor skills
- User-centered design
- Design thinking: defining problems, building empathy, interviewing, active listening
- Science, technology, engineering, art, math (STEAM) and design concepts
Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! We'll pick up where you left off so your camper can keep making and learning.
MODA Members: $60/ Non-members: $70
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Adriana Quispe, Design Educator
With a vision to incorporate design thinking into classrooms Adriana is in constant pursuit of new ways to educate students using the design thinking process. In the museum, you can find Adriana managing Design Club, MODA's free explorative design program for kids, and helping to coordinate and plan for campMODA year-round with expertise in LEGO robotics in addition to supporting in MODA's educational outreach programs to ensure that design remains accessible in the Atlanta community.
