Join us for a morning of robotic exploration as we use the design thinking process, along with LEGO Mindstorms NXT, to build functional robots.
Working hands-on with the NXT kits, young designers will understand how robots interact with the world around them using sensors. Making connections to our everyday lives, campers will discover how these sensors have been applied to objects, like cars and automatic doors, and the determine the impact of their use. Using the common block coding palette, campers will learn how to program their robots and sensors. Later, campers will observe how the robots react to objects within their environment, and adjust their programs accordingly.
Before building, campers will collaboratively engage in aspects of the design thinking process by defining problems, building empathy, interviewing their fellow campers, rapidly prototyping using LEGOs, and iterating. At the end of the session, campers will test the functionality of their robots and evaluate what worked well, and what could further be improved on their designs.
