Are you curious about robots? Do you want to learn the mechanics of how they move? Join us for a morning of invention and experiential learning as we create our own mini robots!
In this camp, young designers will use motors and batteries to investigate how robots move from place to place. They will tinker with the placement of the motor, and observe its effects on the robot’s movement, as well as, gain a better understanding of how batteries work. Using littleBits, color-coded modules that snap together magnetically to create simple circuits, campers will further their exploration into batteries and circuits. Afterwards, they will be able to describe the differences and similarities between the littleBits and the items they represent in our everyday world, like switches, buttons, and motion detectors.
Using the design thinking process and prototyping materials from MODA’s Design Cart, camper will begin sketching their ideal bot. Next, we’ll take out prototyping materials to bring their ideas to life and test out their robots. Each camper will take their own mini robot home for more iterating fun!
Learn about the Design Thinking model
Develop the vocabulary that describes basic and intermediate principles of circuits
Practice electrical safety
Learn about robots through experimentation, invention, and prototyping
Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! We'll pick up where you left off so your camper can keep making and learning.
