Learn a new way to express your holiday rage at MODA on Saturday, December 23 from 1 - 3:30 p.m. Because the holidays are full of frustration, we’re having a special holiday edition of MODA’s subversive cross-stitch workshop.
Cross-stitch is a type of embroidery in which the needlework creates images that look pixelated. Traditionally a way for society to measure a woman’s marriageability, cross-stitch has recently become a vehicle for craftivism (craft activism) and used to assert diverse identities and demand social change.
You’ll learn about how cross-stitch got to be subversive, cross-stitching basics, design creation, and how to bring that design into reality. Bring your passion and we’ll provide the hoops, needles, and thread. But don’t feel like you have to wait until the class to start thinking about what you want to make - start thinking about your design now. We will be working with four-inch hoops, and I would recommend designs with five or fewer colors and no shading.
Participation and Materials Fee: $35 for non-members, $30 for MODA members. Or, bring along a friend and pay $50 for a Buddy Pack for Two Adults. This fee covers everything you need to create and bring home your own awesome cross stitch: 4" hoop, AIDA cloth, needle, threader, embroidery floss, and graph paper. Fee includes admission to MODA’s current exhibition, Text Me: How We Live In Language. Appropriate for ages 16+. Please reach out to the facilitator, Jess Lewis if you have questions or accessibility needs.
If you must cancel your plans, please notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start to receive a refund of the ticket cost minus a $10 processing fee per class. Refunds are not available if we are notified less than 7 days prior to the event start. Refunds are not available if you fail to notify us or attend the event. MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if registration for the event does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements. If MODA cancels a program, a full refund will be issued to all registrants.
