Chasing Critters: Planning Cities for Hexbugs using LittleBits and LEGOs (Grades K-3)

  • MODA 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

For students in grades K-3

Tuesday, November 21, 2017 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at MODA

Come join us for a morning of creative exploration and collaboration. Together in design teams, campers will plan unique cities for our robotic friends, the Hexbugs!

campMODA-goers will investigate how Hexbugs interact together, in their varying environments, and the obstacles they come across. Design teams will learn to think like urban planners as they explore and determine what makes a city beautiful, functional, and sustainable. Campers will work together to design unique cities for their Hexbugs. LEGO bricks, littleBits modules and sensors, as well as other materials from the MODA design cart will be used to further explore user-centered design principles and the versatility of littleBits’ input-output combinations.

After our build session, we’ll test our designs with our Hexbug users, and iterate on our prototypes. And the fun doesn’t stop there! MODA’s also giving your camper their very own Hexbug to continue exploring user-centered design at home!

Campers will learn:

  • Basic circuitry with littleBits modules
  • Basic robotic engineering using Hexbugs and littleBits
  • Fine-motor skills
  • Collaboration
  • User-centered design
  • Design thinking: defining problems, building empathy, interviewing, active listening
  • Science, technology, engineering, art, math (STEAM) and design concepts

Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! We'll pick up where you left off so your camper can keep making and learning.

MODA Sustainers enjoy member pricing on all camps for kids beginning at the $96 Sustainer level and above.
