Athletes around the world are training for the Summer Olympics in Rio! Young designers can get in the Olympic spirit at MODA by using use littleBits electronic circuitry kits** to build and power their own Olympic games.
In this 2-hour class, young designers will work in teams to create an Olympic-inspired invention, then film it in action. They’ll practice design thinking skills as they brainstorm ideas, collaborate to build prototypes and test them, and refine and share their work.
Each team will:
Create an invention that showcases their favorite Olympic game, artifact, experience, or athlete.
Develop collaborative skills by working in small groups.
Solve problems using the design process.
Test their inventions with other people.
Film a short movie using digital media tools.
$40 / $35 for MODA members
Young designers will be using MODA’s littleBits to build. If you want to continue this learning at home, we’re happy to make recommendations about appropriate littleBits sets that can be purchased for home use.
*littleBits are color-coded electronic circuitry kits that snap together with magnets. littleBits circuitry kits empower students to engineer real world solutions through invention, to kickstart their creativity, and to develop creative confidence through STEAM learning. Our littleBits classes meet Next Generation Engineering Design Standards and Common Core standards.
