Family Free Day: Operation Edition

November Family Free Day

The second Sunday of every month is Family Free Day at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA). Join us Sunday, November 13 for MODA’s Design-it-Yourself (DIY) Challenge.

Calling all makers, tinkerers, and designers! Gather round and pull up a seat. MODA’s whipped up a special design challenge treat.

This month MODA’s Design-it-Yourself (DIY) Challenge is taking on the popular children’s board game, Operation. Operation uses circuitry and batteries to power buzzers and lights that activate when metal comes into contact with metal. This Family Free Day, MODA challenges you to use unconventional materials, like MODA’s conductive and insulating dough, to design a miniature version of Operation with your own unique twist. Remix your design with Thanksgiving-themed fun, favorite cartoon characters, or the like.

Before starting the challenge, get a feel for the actual game and try a round of Operation. Take a look at the materials used, as well as the basic circuitry involved. When you’re ready to start the challenge, grab your materials and start building your circuits. When you’ve finished, try out your design with family, or some new MODA friends.

Want more dough? MODA’s got you covered. Make sure to grab a recipe card to-go, listed with all the ingredients you need to make your very own batch of conductive and insulating dough at home.
