This November, join graphic designer Sarah Lawrence at MODA for her Images Workshop, the fourth in her Design for Non-Designers workshop series. JPG, SVG, LOL? What’s the difference between an EPS and a PNG, and why do you need both for your brand? We’ll learn about raster and vector images, when to use them, and how they work on a pixel level. We’ll talk about image resolution and why can’t you blow up a thumbnail into a billboard. We’ll even talk about converting file types efficiently, not just changing the filename.

November Break Camp: Fingerboarding with Max (Ages 8+)

Turn your world into a skatepark by learning how to design a finger skateboard! Learn the process of designing skateboards from start to finish through this hands on camp. Explore designing for concrete, wood, and metal, partnered with digital fabrication like 3D printing, and CNC cutting! Build a new tiny skateboard each day, and contribute to the collaborative skatepark that will eventually reside next to the Old 4th Ward Skatepark off of the Beltline! Come one or all three days for a different experience!

Change the world: Urban Wildlife Homes (Ages 8-12)

Is Atlanta a habitat even though it is a city? Absolutely! In this workshop, students will learn about urban habitats and the animals which live in them. They will look at the effects of urbanization of natural habitats, how designers plan and renovate spaces to include wildlife within the built environment. Students will learn about threatened and endangered ecosystems in Georgia and the challenges facing the organisms that make them up, then they will design wildlife habitats/microhabitats for their own homes and communities.

This February, join graphic designer Sarah Lawrence at MODA for her Web Design Workshop, the sixth in her Design for Non-Designers workshop series. After this class, you’ll be ready to ask a developer for help. We’ll cover digital design basics: the difference between domains and hosting, what a registrar is, and some common error notifications. We’ll spend a lot of time going over the various DIY web platforms (like Wix and Squarespace) you can use when starting your business. You’ll learn the basic building blocks of a website, how it works, and some very basic UX principles to keep your site accessible and user-friendly. Don’t worry, no coding skills needed.

Back by popular demand! Learn the basics of 3D modeling by making a 3D planter. In this workshop you’ll get to create a unique planter design of your own to get 3D printed. Come with a few ideas and we’ll show you how to make your design a reality. Whether you’re a wiz-kid on the computer or haven’t so much as opened a spreadsheet in eons, we will walk you through the basics of a browser-based 3D modeling program called Tinkercad. You’ll learn all you’ll need to know to design your planter and have it printed.

You'll learn about set and production design, as well as the design and architecture of the theater itself, which just underwent a $35 million renovation. We will attend a matinee performance of the world premiere musical BECOMING NANCY, attend a talk with the cast, and receive a backstage tour of the Coca-Cola Stage with Alliance Theatre Production Director Trevor Long.

This September, join graphic designer Sarah Lawrence at MODA for her Color Theory Workshop, the second in her Design for Non Designers workshop series. Most people have a good eye for color, but have a hard time picking their own palettes. We’ll learn the basics of how to choose colors that work well together, and how a tint or a shade works. We’ll build on this knowledge by learning about CMYK and RGB color spaces: what they are and why you need to know the difference whether you’re a designer or not. Lastly, we’ll delve into the wonderful world of HEX colors and codes.
