Food by Design: Sustaining the Future
January 21, 2017 – May 7, 2017
ATLANTA – November 8, 2016 – Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) tastefully announces the upcoming exhibition Food by Design: Sustaining the Future.
Designing the Future of Food | January 21, 2017 – May 7, 2017
Our current conventional food systems — including farming, food production, presentation, delivery and disposal — were shaped by the advent of industrialized agriculture, increases in consumer wealth and mobility and the rise of robust global trade mechanisms after World War II.
Today, a growing number of designers, scientists, policy makers, engineers, farmers, grocers, innovators, foodies and health care professionals argue that our industrial, global food system is not ecologically, socially or economically sustainable. These industry innovators are actively working to address the redesign our food system in order to address environmental, health, and equity challenges. Creating sustainable, environmentally-friendly, and efficient systems to produce enough healthy food for the world presents a wide variety of design challenges.
Curated by MODA, Food by Design: Sustaining the Future will survey a wide range of the innovative ideas being prototyped, tested and implemented in the effort to provide delicious, nutritious food to all. It will highlight work being done in Atlanta and beyond and will engage with the city’s rich foodie culture, looking at cutting-edge developments in food production and asking:
How the farm of the future operates?
How worldwide food distribution can be made more equitable?
How we might design systems that induce consumers to privilege healthy food choices, and other important questions.
