At MODA, we celebrate design as a creative force that inspires change, transforms lives and makes the world a better place. Our exhibitions and related programming highlight a range of design disciplines such as architecture, fashion, graphic design, digital design, industrial design, and more, demonstrating how design is used as a powerful problem-solving tool.

With exhibitions generally lasting 16 weeks each, sponsors enjoy lengthy and repetitive exposure through various marketing channels including MODA’s member communications and active social media. The Future of Food

Oct 16, 2016 - Jan 17, 2017

The process of feeding ourselves involves a massive infrastructure, advanced technologies, and dynamic systems that touch on just about every aspect of the world we live in. Creating sustainable, environmentally-friendly, and efficient ways of producing healthy food presents a wide variety of design challenges. The Future of Food will look at cutting-edge developments and explore how the farm of the future might operate. The exhibit will also highlight ways in which worldwide food distribution could be made more equitable, and how we could design systems that encourage people to make healthier choices.

Designing a Playful City

Feb 5 - May 27, 2017

If Atlanta is to be a great city in which to live, designing great places for children to play must become a top priority. MODA’s upcoming exhibition, Designing for a Playful City, will take visitors through an engaging and often interactive exhibit that will clearly lay out the important role of free, child-led play in the healthy development of all children. It will also encourage visitors to see play’s influence in their own lives. The exhibit will present a strong case for designing more and more urban play environments as cities become more densely populated.

Visitors will learn about successful play spaces around the world and what role design has had in their success. Central to the exhibit is bringing this design information home to Atlanta communities. The state of play throughout the City of Atlanta will be evaluated and visitors will be encouraged to participate in developing ideas for their own communities that they can then act upon.

Designing for a Playful City will also examine what other cities around the world are learning about play. It will engage the visitor to look for new solutions to bringing play to our ever growing city. The exhibition will be curated by Cynthia Gentry, Founding Director of PlayAtlanta and member of the Board of Directors of the International Play Association.
