The Art of Ichiyo Ikebana: Japanese Floral Design
August 30, 2010 - September 18, 2010
The accomplished designer Akihiro Kasuya, Headmaster of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana, assisted by his son Naohiro, will create a site-specific display that examines the creative art of arranging for big spaces. The exhibit will provide insight into Kasuya's creative process and to his unique way of constructing a gallery design that takes floral art to a high level of contemporary sophistication.
Images of the arrangements in the exhibit can be viewed in our Ikebana Opening Reception photo albums. Click here for album one.

Observations on Japanese Architects
August 30, 2010 - October 30, 2010
Observations on Japanese Architects hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This exhibition, curated by Argentine designers Norberto Feal and Anabella Gatto, is dedicated to the presentation of emerging Japanese architects and their work. The multi-media exhibition celebrates experimental and innovative methodologies undertaken in recent years. The observations are present through the grouping of projects into three typologies: "white/black", "skin/metal", and "classical/monstrous".
Atlanta: Beyond Bricks & Sticks
How green design is changing the places in which we live, work, learn and play.

In celebration of Atlanta's diverse mix of certified green building projects, MODA presents ATLANTA: Beyond Bricks & Sticks, an exhibition that is traveling to some of the city's high-profile venues. Spotlighting many of the metro area's outstanding design examples, MODA's Atlanta: Beyond Bricks & Sticks tells the stories of the "What is Your Carbon Footprint?" quiz, video interviews, an intimate look at student life at Dekalb County's LEED Silver Certified Arabia Mountain High School and many other features that explain and celebrate green living.
Curation of the exhibition includes a broad spectrum of buildings reflective of the metro area’s commercial and residential projects along with large-scale developments that incorporate environmental features. All of the exhibit’s projects either meet the US Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system or the Southeast’s EarthCraft House certification program. The exhibit has been thoughtfully designed with sustainable materials to fit the theme while allowing for the challenges of traveling to the various settings.
